Photographs can transport us in many ways: a family snapshot will take back time; a news photograph makes distant events real.

Paul Grant Cutright's photographs take me to what in my imagination might be the South of France; a peaceful, sensual place with warm Mediterranean breezes encouraging a languid lifestyle. While viewing these photographs, I am overtaken by a sense of well-being; that the world is in balance.

Why are these photographs so evocative? While driving the other day, I heard a line from Tom Petty's song "You Don't Know How It Feels" which seemed to sum up the effect they have on me:

I woke up in between
A memory and a dream

These images do what the best ones do: they bypass the rational parts of the brain and stimulate a more basic, emotional response.

Where Paul's photographs take you will undoubtedly be to a different place than mine. Enjoy your journey.
